The Fox and The Crow

A selection of pages from the timeless Aesop tale where a tricky fox outsmarts a vain crow.

Development

It took many sketches to get the Fox just right. I didn’t want it looking too realistic, but I also didn’t want it to be too cartoonish. I wanted him to look respectable and charismatic, not evil or conniving. The Crow came to me almost instantly.

Taking Shape

I created a reference guide for the two characters to nail down the important aspects of each design. This was to help me keep them consistent throughout each illustration of them throughout the pages.

Fun fact: juvenile crows have blue eyes. I wanted to show that the Crow is pretty inexperienced and still has many life lessons to learn.
