The Dubious Rise of Imposter Syndrome

This editorial illustration was created to pair with an article from The New Yorker called "The Dubious Rise of Imposter Syndrome" by Leslie Jamison. It discusses the questionable aspects regarding the creation of the term "imposter syndrome" and why it is problematic.

The Concepts

While it was tempting to create designs based on how imposter syndrome feels, the article discusses how it is a feeling that has no medical bearing and is actually just self doubt. That said, self doubt in women often comes about due to patriarchal forces in the workplace.

Final Edits

The final illustration went through a total revision. I decided that the face looked too uncanny (and like me) and the eyelashes were distracting on the numerous disembodied eyeballs. I then stylized the face more and reworked the pupils, unifying the visual styles.
