Illustrated Guide to Paleontology

This self directed project was inspired by my love of paleontology. As a kid, books like these fueled my brain with a passion for science (and dinosaurs.) I wanted to create a project that reflected that.

Uncovering the Evidence

This spread discusses what a paleontologist is and how they know what they know about dinosaurs. I conducted research to see what an actual dig site looked like, what tools are typically used out in the field, even what the people might be wearing.

Close Ups

Here I wanted to show close up expressions of dinosaurs in their natural habitat. I did research on what plants might have been around during the Jurassic in this specific part of the country to fully represent the environment.

The End

This spread paid homage to a documentary I watched as a child, called Walking With Dinosaurs (1999.) A lone tyrannosaurus watches what it perceives to be a normal star. I wanted this to be the most serene, artful piece within the series. I kept to a limited palette and a simple composition.
